Happy new year!

Well, personally, I'm with Lizzie Windsor: this year has, indeed, been an annus horribilis. The last few months, since my move to London, have been both hectic and mostly positive, but the first half of the year was bloody dreadful!

Anyway, the "teenies" or the "tweenies", or whatever the media decides we call the next decade, starts tommorrow and regular blogging will resume on Monday 4th January.

Happy new year all!

For me both the first and the second half of the year were bloody dreadful so lets hope the new one is a lot better for us both. Will the books of the year be posted soon?

Appointment

He fingers the ends with the care of a vet
handling a new-fledged baby bird.
'How would you like it cut?' he asks.
'Well.' I reply. 'I have a wedding to stop.'

I know I won't go. Just impediments
are for the movies. But I let him snip
through the blade of afternoon light,
layering out the splits, the kinks, the fluff
as thoughtfully as though I had the guts
to shout your name and race you to the bus.
