According to the Guardian, "Sam Leith, the Daily Telegraph's literary editor, has been made redundant as part of the latest round of job cuts by the Telegraph Media Group."

I've done a bit of work for Sam, so I'm very sad to hear about this -- hopefully someone will do the right thing, snap him up, and offer him a decent job.

Readers Comments

  1. What idiots the Telegraph must be to sack Sam! He was/is brilliant. Someone else should snap him up sharpish.

  2. They've also got rid of their obituaries editor, a blow at the best section of the paper. Things must be desperate.

  3. I sent Sam maybe nine or ten books pitches over the course of the last six month. He never took any - but he was always very courteous, which is quite rare in my experience. So I'm quite sorry to hear this news.

  4. He also wrote a very cross and funny account of himself for Gorkana alerts (the journalism jobs update email) advising that you could contact him at "samleithsacked" at whatever dot com etc. The tone was perfect...
